About GPPB

Culmination of work by the Derbyshire GP Alliance, to create a single, unified, appropriate representative and learned Derbyshire GP voice into the Integrated Care System (ICS) at all required strategic and operational forum and workstream levels.

GPPB brings together Primary Care Networks (via their Clinical Directors) and General Practices and GPs (via the Local Medical Committee) and is mandated to represent general practice in the local ICS (which is known as Joined-Up Care Derbyshire - JUCD).

Our Mission, Vision & Values

Mission: To provide a collaborative voice for developing the future of general practice provision within the Derbyshire health and care system.

Vision: Maximise the opportunities to lead general practice to improve patient outcomes and reduce health inequalities.

Values: To be progressive, collaborative, supportive and transformative.

Our Terms of Reference

In line with our Terms of Reference we aim to;

  • Be the focal point for the strategic and high-level operational interaction of DDGPs with the ICS, wider System and other third parties.

  • Provide a unified DDGP voice that is at all times representative of the current DDGP view on strategic and operational issues.

  • Ensure (so far as is possible) security, sustainability and a better work/life balance for DDGP Practice staffing.

  • Collaborate with partners as and when required to seek the best outcomes possible.

The triumvirate of GPPB, DDLMC, and The Hub Plus (GPTF, incorporating Health Education Derbyshire) in Derbyshire adds further strength to the leadership and development of general practice in Derbyshire. Each organisation provides key functions for leading and supporting general practice which maximises the opportunity for innovation and leadership across the spectrum of general practice.

  • The Hub Plus supports individuals within practices with education, skills, and resilience as well as wider workforce issues.

  • DDLMC has a statutory function in relation to the contracts held by GPs and practices and provides a lot of support to practices.

  • GPPB provides the strategic voice of the whole of general practice provision, as well as our Primary Care Networks that are a key building block of integrated community care.

We see a lot of potential to build on the triumvirate of general practice organisations to enhance both the support and development of clinicians and practices, as well as our collective constructive impact in the system.

Our 2024/25 Priorities

At GPPB, we are part funded by PCNs, The LMC and the Integrated Care Board (ICB), which enables us to play a key role in the development and delivery of healthcare services across Derby and Derbyshire.

While we are committed to addressing the priorities set by the ICB, we also drive forward our own high-level objectives, ensuring that the needs of our community and our vision for the future are at the forefront of our efforts.

ICB-Funded Priorities We Deliver

As part of our partnership with the ICB, we are focused on the following key priorities:

  1. In Conjunction with the LMC, Develop, Lead and co-ordinate communication and engagement with general practice to ensure a consistent and coherent representative voice in the Derby & Derbyshire system.

  2. Recovering Access to Primary Care - Cut bureaucracy – lead in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and LMC on this workstream.

  3. Work with the ICB to deliver the system financial target (or at least be a moderate constructive voice the ICB could talk to and a conduit for discussions with the wider GP voice).

  4. Develop and deliver General Practice Sustainability & Resilience Plan.

  5. Lead on development and implementation of a new clinical strategy for General Practice in Derby and Derbyshire.

  6. Provide and support Clinical and managerial leadership in Derby & Derbyshire.

  7. PCN Development

In addition to the above we are focused on;

  • Strengthening our governance

  • Developing as a Board

  • Enhancing data and digital

  • Becoming provider of choice for primary / community services
